This very imposing clock was made around 1810 by a clockmaker Edward Mathews from Welshpool. The clock was named an Act of Parliament clock or tavern clock.
They were very common in public places or inns hence the name tavern clock. They always had large plain dials & plain painted cases some like this one were a little more ornate with some inlay & brassware. The clock has a 6 day weight driven & pendulum regulated movement.

The clock is stored in one of our workshops ready to have some minor restoration to its case & the all important full service, the clock is in full working order but has been stored in a barn for the last 20 years so needs a full & comprehensive service. This will ensure this clock will run for many years to come.
It’s a large clock dial measures 16 ” & the case is 18″ wide x 55″, the depth is around 7″ so as you see a very imposing clock, it certainly would be a fantastic talking point, these clocks are now becoming a bit of a rarity.
