Ok, you have just had your Grandfather clock movement serviced & restored, there are now a few more things to consider before you put your clock movement back in its case.
The case needs to be level using a spirit level! this is to say vertically & horizontally, this is an absolute must, also if the clock case is not on solid ground ie carpet a 3/4 inch board should be used as a solid base to place your clock onto & last but not least the case should be secured to the wall using a baton & screws.
Grandfather clocks were always secured to the wall or the chair rail or picture rail, if you look into the back of your clock you will see many holes, these holes are evidence the clock has been secured many times to a wall. Grandfather clocks are meant to be on a flat wall not in the corner of a room between two walls its very difficult to secure a clock this way & special brackets are needed, after we have worked on clock movements they are put on test for a week or so, set up level so we are 100% certain the clock is working as intended, at this point I must stress it is not the clockmaker’s responsibility or job to make sure your case is straight & secure.
If we can, we may be able to provide this service but it is chargeable & at the time of writing is between £140 & £175 but could be more depending on the distance from the workshops, this cost includes fixtures & fittings & baseboard & secured to a flat wall, fitting Grandfather clocks securely in a corner is a different cost & is priced subject to survey,
