These are a few more pictures of the French clock movement made by Japy Freres c1880, these are the main spring barrels completely dismantled.
As you can see one of the barrels looks like its had a very heavy ingress of water ? this is not usual & we suspect bad workmanship in the past.
For this to happen to this existent we believe the movement has been placed in an ultrasonic cleaner without dissembling it completely, then on removing the movement from the cleaner proper drying is absolutely essential the thing is if the clock is not serviced correctly this type of shoddy workmanship would get missed until catastrophic failure, incidentally this clock was still running with the customer reporting it stops sometimes? Another point to have in mind is not every clock should go into an ultrasonic cleaner & we favor cleaning by hand this is slower & more labour intensive but nothing is missed .
