These two very nice boule clocks are part of our collection, they date c1900 & have the typical French drum movement of 8 day duration striking on a gong on the hour & half hour.
The cases are tortoise shell with brass inlay & edging they are a typical French clock, French clocks are often very ornate & the movements are of good quality and made of solid brass.
They are often made by Jappy Freres who was a fine French clock manufacturer but there are others who made clocks that were equally as good such as Marti & Vincetti to name just a few, there are also what I would consider copies of the movement made by unknown German company’s that only had some kind of numbering system, unfortunately, records have long gone so I don’t know there history but I must say the quality is still very good & very often a service is all that is needed to get these clocks running again.
